A review of the dating violence literature reveals a limited number of studies with high school students and few studies that investigate the contextual issues of violence, such as meaning, motivation, and consequences. The present study sought to investigate the extent of dating violence victimization in a New Zealand sample of senior high school students aged 16 to 18 years and the perceived reasons for the violence, emotional effects, disclosure of the violence, and relationship consequences.
A questionnaire that contained both open-ended and forced-choice items pertaining to experiences of violence and its consequences was developed using material gathered from focus group discussions with high school students. Findings showed gender similarity in the extent of violence and a number of significant gender differences in the aftermath of violence, particularly in the area of sexual coercion. These findings are discussed in the context of future research and prevention of dating violence.

Research among adults has shown that younger age is a consistent risk factor for experiencing and perpetrating intimate partner violence. However, no representative epidemiologic studies of lifetime prevalence of dating violence among adolescents have been conducted. After controlling for the effects of potentially confounding demographics and risk behaviors, data from both surveys indicate that physical and sexual dating violence against adolescent girls is associated with increased risk of substance use eg, cocaine use for , odds ratio [OR], 4.
Intimate partner violence IPV against women is a major public health concern. Estimates from a recent large-scale, nationally representative survey 1 indicate that more than 1. Research among adults has shown that younger age is a consistent risk factor for experiencing and perpetrating IPV. Most IPV is directed at women. The rate of violence against females by intimate partners is 3 to 6 times that of IPV against males. For these reasons, research and prevention efforts are appropriately focused on violence against female partners.

The origin and fate of new mutations within species is the fundamental process underlying evolution. However, while much attention has been focused on characterizing the presence, frequency, and phenotypic impact of genetic variation, the evolutionary histories of most variants are largely unexplored. We have developed a nonparametric approach for estimating the date of origin of genetic variants in large-scale sequencing data sets.
The accuracy and robustness of the approach is demonstrated through simulation. Using data from two publicly available human genomic diversity resources, we estimated the age of more than 45 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms SNPs in the human genome and release the Atlas of Variant Age as a public online database.
We characterize the relationship between variant age and frequency in different geographical regions and demonstrate the value of age information in interpreting variants of functional and selective importance. Finally, we use allele age estimates to power a rapid approach for inferring the ancestry shared between individual genomes and to quantify genealogical relationships at different points in the past, as well as to describe and explore the evolutionary history of modern human populations.

The current literature review seeks to understand what has been said about online dating so far by exploring studies, theories and concepts relevant in describing the phenomenon. It also explores the gaps in the literature and offers leads for what could be taken in account in what concerns future research. Of the most visible elements that reorganize the modern world, the technological development remains of great importance when analyzing change in social structures and institutions.

Many have argued that it is important to examine different aspects of commitment in romantic relationships, but few studies have done so. We examined dedication i. Cross-sectionally, these four facets of commitment were associated in expected directions with relationship adjustment, as well as perceived likelihood of relationship termination and of marriage. Longitudinally, each facet uniquely predicted relationship stability. More dedication, more material and perceived constraints and less felt constraint were uniquely associated with a higher likelihood of staying together over an eight-month period.
At the same time, little research has focused on determining which specific aspects of commitment are most predictive of relationship continuance versus termination.

Each section provides basic information and an activity to reinforce the information provided. It can also be read together with a parent or mentor to help provide a platform for discussing sensitive sexuality-related issues.
It clearly outlines aspects of a healthy, safe, and mutually respectful relationship. The book is inclusive of various disabilities and respectful of diversity in sexual orientations and does not assume opposite-sex relationships. What this book does not do is provide significant physical health—related information on sexuality. This is not a criticism, as it is not the purpose of the book to delve into such information.
